P0017 - Crankshaft Position – Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)

System Information

The ECM monitors both Crankshaft and Camshaft speed and position using sensors, this information is then used to calculate Fuel Injection, Ignition and Variable Valve Timing Control.

Fault Code Explained

This fault codes indicates that the ECM is receiving conflicting engine position information from the Camshaft Position Sensor and Crankshaft Position Sensor.
This fault code can be due to one of the sensors or the sensor wiring being faulty, it can also be due to the valve timing being incorrect.

Recommended Tests

It is recommended to check the following systems and components.

Checks should include sensor outputs, wiring, physical checks of Valve Timing and teeth / rotors on Camshaft and Crankshaft pulleys.
