P0124 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'A' Circuit Intermittent
Throttle position systems can use either sensors or switches with some systems using both. The sensors / switches can be part of the Accelerator pedal, operated via a throttle cable or they can be part of the throttle housing. If the system is fitted with switches, these will normally provide information on 'Fully Open' and 'Fully Closed' positions. If the system is fitted with a sensor this will normally provide information on all throttle positions including the rate of change.
Fault Code Explained
This fault code will relate to either a Throttle Position Switch, a Throttle Position Sensor or an Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. The value being received by the ECM is either intermittently going above or below normal operating values or the signal is varying in an irregular manner.
It is recommended to check the following systems and components.
- Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit
- Throttle Position Sensor Circuit
- Physical check for jammed throttle butterfly
There can be a number of switches or sensors fitted depending on the vehicle, refer to manufacturers data for further system information.
